Pair of antique linen pillowcases with embroidery, scalloping and NS monogram
In my constant search for antique fabrics I sometimes come across real treasures, as in this case.
A trunk from an ancient villa which contained part of a trousseau dating back to the late nineteenth century, of a woman whose initials were NS.
A real discovery, several beautiful and perfectly preserved pieces, thanks to the fact that they were forgotten for over a century inside this trunk.
Precious garments that tell us about another era, other lives, industrious hands that embroidered and sewed.
They were part of her dowry of bed and bath linens.
These two embroidered pillowcases are beautiful. Made from a beautiful medium weight loom woven linen and richly embroidered.
They feature a rectangular frame consisting of a panel with an embroidery placed centrally on each side representing the lily of Florence, in fact the noblewoman who had them made was Florentine.
A beautiful embroidery that frames her initials, NS, embroidered in the center.
All around the pillowcase, a beautiful scalloped scallop, which makes these pillowcases truly precious and special.
Another peculiarity is represented by the particular buttoning on one of the two short sides, which forms a bellows closed by beautiful mother-of-pearl buttons.
The maximum usable size is 75x54 cm.
The pillowcases have been carefully washed but I would like to point out that there may be small imperfections or signs of aging on these items, which I always prefer not to insist on too much, because they are very old and must be respected and loved for what they are. These are not defects but small testimonies of the age of these treasures that come from the past.
You can machine wash them on a gentle cycle or by hand, with mild soap. Air dry them and do not spin.
